Persistent luminescence of Eu/Dy-doped Sr2MgSi2O7 glass-ceramics processed by aerodynamic levitation

Glass beads of the Sr2MgSi2O7 stoichiometric composition and a non-stoichiometric with higher SiO2/SrO ratio doped Eu2O3/Dy2O3 were prepared through aerodynamic levitation coupled to CO2 laser heating. The glass subsequently treated at 1100 ºC produce glass-ceramics Sr2MgSi2O7: Eu2+, Dy3+ as main crystalline phase. glasses exhibit red emissions; after crystallisation, corresponding emit blue light under UV excitation. starting considerably affects crystallisation process, resulting in very different microstructures which, turn, have significant influence on luminescence properties. photoluminescence emission spectra show broadband (λ = 400–500 nm) peak assigned typical Eu2+ transition excitation 365 nm. Both intensity persistence time significatively increase decreasing temperature. Glass-ceramics from non-stoichimetric co-doped 1Eu2O3/0.5Dy2O3 (mol%.) provided longest times.
